Say hello to Karin from Switzerland.

There’s only one runner on the planet who can say she won the Nike+ Race to 50 Million Miles. Meet Karin Gerber.

Here’s what she had to say about her historic run that put us over the 50 million mile mark. That’s 2,000 times around the globe. Or over 100 round trips to the moon. Or over half the distance to the sun.

“I just can’t believe it! It’s really an honor for me to be the one who run this 50 millionth mile! Thank you very much for this surprise! I really love Nike+ since my first run! I hope my school-English is good enough to tell my story.”

When did you first start running with Nike+?

In November 2006, when the Nike+ iPod Sport Kit first was available in Switzerland. June before I got a nano to my 30th birthday and I almost couldn’t await to get a Nike+ kit!

What’s your favorite part about running with Nike+?

That I’m able to make my runs visible. To see my improvements and to have a “goody” after each run: the upload.

How do use nikeplus.com to stay motivated?

I’m happy about a running-guy, who makes a nice monthly challenge, to get the most kilometers. So to see running my buddies makes me staying tuned on my own aim to get about 120 km every month.

What’s your PowerSong?

Actually it’s “Motivation” by Sheryl Crow, to stay motivated until the end ;-)

Tell us about the 50 Millionth Mile run.

This Sunday morning I was not in the mood to run my usual course right in front of my home. So I drove to the “Grey Woods” by car, a forest with calm and mystic ambiance. I was on the run about an hour and the first half was uphill only. It was tough but I could be pleased up the downward. The ways in this forest are a bit confusing, and suddenly there were a few bee colony boxes just right at the edge of way. Yes, I was really fast there! But fortunately it was quite cold and the bees were lazy. At least I surprised my boyfriend with fresh croissants from the bakery on my way home. No it wasn’t a run like every day…
