On 10.19.08, over 330 Nike+ runners gathered at 10 NIKETOWN locations across the country to run together in the Nike+ Women’s Half Marathon. Whether it was in Los Angeles or Boston, runners joined forces to run 13.1 miles together, have fun as a group and most importantly, help to raise over $18 million for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Each of the 10 NIKETOWN runs provided a unique race course, ample water stations throughout, and an elaborate post-race celebration where everyone was treated to refreshments, entertainment and specially designed Tiffany’s Finisher’s keychains.

Here are a few highlights from some of the locations across the country:

NEW YORK CITY

68 enthusiastic runners showed up to race along the scenic West Side Highway, where at the finish, everyone had a chance to feel the thrill of breaking through the tape. Afterwards, friends and family joined the runners for refreshments and a post-run raffle. A special shout-out is in order for the winner (and 1^st time ½ marathoner!) Saira Perales who crossed the finish line in 1:48:00.

PORTLAND, OREGON

Portland had a fantastic turnout with 85 runners showing up to race—nearly 4 times the number who ran last year. A great time was had by all, with runners raving about the gorgeous course bordering the Willamette River and the luxe post-race goodies—complimentary massages, chocolates and roses.

CHICAGO

37 runners met up at NIKETOWN to race together in Chicago. During the race, 5 sets of course marshals (along with the necessary cheering tools—cowbells, of course) were on hand to fire up runners and direct them along the route. Post-race, runners enjoyed yummy treats such as strawberries, chocolate and sparkling apple cider.
